Maegan Neubeck: Indigo and Natural Dyeing (Jan 18th)
INDIGO AND NATURAL DYEING
SATURDAY, JAN 18TH
1-3PM
This exciting shibori and indigo dyeing workshop is taught by local artist Maegan Neubeck. With decades of experience teaching and making superb garments and homegoods it’s an honor to learn with her at Sullivan Public.
Indigo is a natural pigment sourced from indigofera plants to create a range of blue dyes. In this workshop we will learn how to create an organic fructose/ henna indigo dye vat using an easy 3-2-1 method and how to maintain the vat, by feeding it with a sugar milkshake, as Maegan likes to call it, so you can have your vat and all that beautiful blue for weeks.
We will dye a set of throw pillows so you can explore different methods for pattern and design using resist shibori, sashiko, bundle or straight immersion techniques. So many fun ways to explore this beautiful plant.
This will be a very hands on (messy) class, gloves and aprons will be provided but come in comfortable clothes that you are ok with getting a spot or two on.
Workshop limited to 14 participants
