Brady Candell: Raku Workshop (May 31st, 2025)

$185.00

RAKU WORKSHOP - $185
SATURDAY MAY 31st

10AM-5PM

Join us for a day of RAKU magic led by artist + expert Brady Candell. This is the first RAKU workshop of an ongoing series at SP. We invite experienced potters that can bring their own bisqueware, but we are making spaces available for new potters to join this firing too. We ask that you email ahead of purchasing to discuss and come ready to learn.

We will provide dozens of glazes, varying reduction chambers and multiple combustible options, horsehair etc. This is a full day and a full participation workshop. Everyone will be expected to have a hand in this amazing firing.

This workshop is about the amazing process rather than product. By nature, raku is volatile and we expect there to be some breakage along the way. Everyone will be assured that 3 pieces (~6x6 or smaller) will get fired. But definitely bring more, we aim to be able to process additional work.

We will take a break for lunch, please bring food, snacks and water. It’s a long day!

An email with suggestions on what pottery to make/bring, what to wear, what to expect etc will follow registration. Raku is an outdoor alternative firing technique and there is inherent danger working with fire and extremely hot elements. Please be aware of these conditions if you choose to join, you will also need to sign a liability waiver to participate. Participants must wear Close Toed Shoes and 100% Cotton/natural fiber clothing - No Synthetic Fibers.

Workshop limited to 14 participants
